Just received the S90 Ike housing (yipee!), and playing around with it, the mode dial has about 1/8th of an inch (2mm) of vertical play (i.e. it travels that far up/down if I pull/push it). I'm assuming that's normal? Just wanted to check, as this is my first non-Canon housing.

Thanks

Yes, that is normal.

It has to sit in a grip position when the camera is in ,u wouldnt be able to get the camera in if you didnt lift it first.

Watch out for the front add on cog,put on backwards and it just spins, also be extra sure to seat the zoom capture cup correctly.

also, ya sometimes have to press down on it a bit when changing modes...no big deal, just have to understand that it does not respond the same as the camera dial itself...congrats on the new setup.

I also have the S90 Ike housing.....

I had an issue with the power button......

I had to add a thin shim to the lower right hand tab to make sure the power button works......

It just may have been the way my camera was built and how it fit into my housing......

Ikelite and other camera housing vendors will usually put shims and end caps in as extras so you can remedy such issues. What you describe is pretty normal. Unless you can not operate the desired control of course.

Yeah - I saw that thread, which made me a little worried, but mine seems to fit and function fine. I'm not sure if it's just due to manufacturing discrepancies or refinement of the design (as I also read they changed the black screen frame part from hard plastic to a dense foam). As someone mentioned, a workaround is to just press the play button then the trigger (to turn it on, I guess just being idle would be the only way to turn it off).

Yes, about 3/4's of the way through the dive I did figure out how to turn on the camera the work around way.....

I just prefer the simple on/off button......so I insert the shim as part of setting the rig up......:D

Since I dive and take some pics the camera and strobes are off 75% of the time.....
