A friend from Sharm is now using the S100 for most of his video services. He uses
Canon S100, Fix S100 and UWL-28. You can see his stuff on
youtube

and at vimeo

One short example of finding a baby whitetip hooked and entangled at Gordon's Reef Tiran
Hooked Shark

This is a 3min Thistlegorm

Pretty impressive IMO when one considers the size of the camera and the fact that it is primarily just a compact.

Hope the shark grows up and eats the fisherman...not really :D. Very nice video and very nice save of a wonderful shark. My new S100, Fix s100 and UWL-28 have only been tested in my basement so far (2 weeks since delivery). Soon the quarry with 15 feet of visibility for more testing and then to the Maldives in late November. It will be my first time in Asia anywhere and I got the set-up just for this trip and the Socorro Islands in 2013. Hope my videos turn out half as good and I'll be happy.
Thanks for posting.

This guy is a professional videographer and it shows is not just the equipment but the steady hand and the tools and editing that create a good video this is a practical demonstration!

Thanks for the information, Interceptor. Since I've learned quite a bit from your posts and have printed out some of them to keep for future reference, I always appreciate your responses. It's nice to know that a professional videographer has the same set-up I do. However, it's the person and his/her skills that makes the pics and videos, not the equipment, so I know that I have quite a ways to go. Still waiting for my new strobe and then off to the Quarry it is. So far, it's just practice pics of my kids' little toys they played with 20 years ago. Waiting on some grandkids to give them to.
After I get in the water, I'm sure I'll be asking more questions.

Should I start a blog:)?

The S100 does 1080/24p @ 38 mbps and 720/30p @ 24 mbps

This is an extremely high bitrate actually bluray quality this is at the limits of a class 10 SDHC card the canon Legria camcorder do not get to more than 24mbps so this is impressive

However you will eventually need to compress the footage for youtube and other purposes to more huma 8 mbps still impressive quality

It's really brilliant and great to inspire what video work can be done with these compacts.

Look forward to seeing more.

Maria, FYI, I just ordered your book that will be available at the end of the month from Amazon. Between your book, Interceptor's posts, and a number of other SB helpers, I might actually do something worthwhile with this S100 set-up.

One thing to consider is that using the S100 as a video rig you don't even manage two dives because of the battery

This is the most serious limitation of the set up and should not be forgotten

A video operator on a daily boat typically does one dive with the group and then spends the rest of time editing and adding stock footage, this is not the typical behaviour of an amateur video/photo user
