RSS feed only notifies on new threads, not updated threads

I established an RSS feed using Thunderbird 1.0.7 for the reader, and the RSS2 URL.
I get notified when there's a new thread in one of the RSS watched forums, but not if
there's an updated to the thread. If I happen to later look at the thread, I do see the
new posts, but since the thread doesn't get marked unread, I don't know to go look.

Is this the way it's supposed to work?
