you mean Fakarava?

many times, it was part of our itinerary with the Tahiti Aggressor. Great diving, especially the southern pass, my vote for the best dive in French Polynesia

The Atlas Say's there is a dive center called Rotoava. Looking at the satellite photo Fakarava would be on the west Central side of the atoll and Rotoava on the north east corner

Hmm.. Fakarava is the actual atoll, second largest in FP behind Rangiroa. Rotoava is the main town up north where the airport is. The large pass there is about 800m wide and a great dive, really healthy corals on the edges of the pass as well. Big population of sharks at the mouth on the incoming tide at about 90ft, once bottom times starts to go you drift into the pass and hit about 40ft, then back down to 60ft into a Wrasse Hole full of loads of different schools of fish and sharks.

The south village is called Tetamanu, home to FP's oldest Catholic church and a small resort of i think 4 or 5 bungalows and an over water bar. The pass there is amazing. Drop into the blue and drift in and finish at a ledge with about 200 grey reefs in a pack. or start at the sharks and then when bottom time getting low drift around the corner under the docks of the resort and see AMAZING coral life and at least 7 species of shark and napoleans and big schools of fish in the pilings...

Valerie Taylor calls it one of her fave dives of all time....
