Hello folks!

Any up to date information about Perhentian Islands?
Diving ..
Place to stay…

Does it deserve a 15 hours by flight trip?
I’m loooking for a dive destination around June-July and I found weather seems fine!

Perhentian is a beautiful destination to go to. Whether or not it is worth a 15-hour flight just for the diving is pretty subjective. While diving there is very pleasant, I will not consider it world-class.

Perhentian is made up of 2 main islands, and depending what you are looking for will determine which Island to go for. Perhentian Kecil has got more of a backpacker vibe and is more lively, especially with its beach bars and parties on Long Beach. Perhentian Besar is more quiet, with resorts catered more toward families and couples.

Personally, because I normally travel solo to Perhentian, I prefer Kecil, as you would most likely make more friends.

June to July is a perfect time to go to Perhentian.

Thank you!!!!

This is my summer holiday to take rest from hard working, I have 2 weeks.

I’ve heard about coral bleaching,
This is what makes me worry about this trip.

I will land to kl and the plan is to take flight to an airport nearest a dive destination, so just in case could be also Borneo or other places reachable by Kuala Lumpur

Two wks for five islands: Perhentian x 2, Redang, Tenggol and Tioman.
KL to Kota Bharu or Tioman first? Bus or flight schedule is the deciding factor. KL airport is miles away from the city and airport bus easily takes an hr, train is faster but expensive.
BTW, all those places are NOT that great in diving.

We loved Tioman but not necessarily the diving. Lots of dynamite fishing and the Chinese blow out their bilge tanks pretty close to the islands so you'll get oil slicks and murky water on certain days.

Otherwise, Tioman is freaking awesome.

We were in Perhentian Island last June for 4 nights. We stayed with Bubble Resort. Staff and owner were friendly. They have the sea turtle (penyu) eggs hatching area on the beach for the conservation project. If you are interested in watching the sea turtle leave after laying eggs, the staff would knock on your door in the wee hour and walk together to the beach area. It was quite cool! Not guaranteed but we were lucky to be out 2 nights. My daughter and I took the PADI course and I had to quit due to fatigue as it was the last leg of our long trip. I signed up for a snorkeling trip before the end of the trip, thinking that I went all the way there without snorkeling would be something I would regret. The water was calm and I see some corals bleach. A funny story to share: a French couple was in the snorkeling trip with me and the wife dropped the go-pro camera in the water, about 20 feet down. None of us could retrieve it. Then came the dive team in a speed boat and the scene reminded me of a James Bond movie (with the signature theme song in the background! :-). One of the diving masters found the camera within 3 minutes!

My daughter shared that Rawa Island had more to see in diving. My friend just went there to relax, not doing snorkeling much and no diving.
