Anyone dive with a dive op in Rocky Point recently? All I can find is this lady named Lea but no references.

Besides Lea - who I believe works from a/her boat - the only shop in town was Sun & Fun.

However their website comes back as hacked so I'm guessing they've gone OOB in the last several years. Diving there was never great - there's a large tidal exchange and being at the upper end the vis is frequently awful. Lea - and I believe there's 1-2 other boats - dive Bird Island just off the coast - there's a sea lion colony there.

Check with the Tucson and Phoenix shops - some run trips down there very occasionally. The Dive Shop in Tucson does a yearly camping trip to Himalaya Bay [-]which is nearby.[/-] http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/so...0-arizona-lds-list-last-update-11-2014-a.html

Most Phoenix/Tucson shops drive further to San Carlos near Guaymas which is better diving, better visibility and due to the submarine canyon nearby often attracts larger pelagics. Hammerheads school there in Oct. - the water is still 80ish at the time. There's also a large sea lion colony a short boat ride away at San Pedro Island. We always saw puffers, Cortez Angels and usually an octo or two. It's a rock substrate and corals in the Sea of Cortez are small and flat. San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico

I haven't done any diving in Rocky Point for a while, but in addition to the Sun-n-Fun operation here are some other diving op contacts I've got for Rocky Point ( I can't vouch for how current the information is):

Daniel Weimers – Sonoran Sun Office
638-112-7482

Lea Parris – Rocky Point Scuba Dives (I contacted her once through Scuba Pros of Arizona in Peoria)

There is a well-known live aboard dive boat that operates out of Rocky Point.

I've also heard of another Rocky Point live aboard that does shorter trips to an area southeast of Isla San Jorge, but I've never tracked this one down.

Himalaya Bay isn't close to Rocky Point. It's actually 300 miles south of Tucson and northwest of San Carlos, Sonora. The bay offers good access for shore diving as well as small boat access. The Dive Shop in Tucson usually lists a diving-camping trip to Himalaya Bay on its trip schedule.

I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that...:shakehead:

It just dawned on me that I know Lea slightly from a shop that closed a few years ago. They do regular guided dive trips at times also.

If you were interested in a liveaboard leaving from there in the summer months (Jun-Sep), that's the Rocio Del Mar. Great boat my buddy has been on it twice recently. Nice thing is you can fly into Phoenix and take their shuttle from the airport to the boat for $125 r/t.

As you can see by the mostly sold out schedule, it's a pretty popular option. Rocio Del Mar Liveaboard - Midriff Islands Schedule - Rates

For what it's worth, the Sun-n-Fun shop was still there when I was in Rocky Point in late February and the shop's boat was still in the marina.

Go on Facebook for Sea of Cortez Adventures. They post pictures of diving in Rocky Point and it looks like they organized a trip on April 3,$115 and ask for Lea#928-380-8619. They're address is 12009 W Ashby Dr, Peoria. I never dove w them, so I'm not sure why I'm seeing their post.

Checked with a reliable source who was in Rocky Point last week... She dropped by the Sun-n-Fun shop location and the shop is gone.
