And what's going to happen when some quick footed tourist catches and beats the crap out of a would be burgler/robber? I sleep light and might have a fish-billy or a big stick near by to "do unto others before they do unto you". That will probably create an "International Incident" of the "ugly American tourist" assaulting a poor islander.

...

That is a good question....I am surprised that somebody has gotten the $h!t beat out of them yet...it is a matter of time.

Anybody seen what happens to a resident that beats-up an intruder in Bonaire?

Wow! We are scheduled to go to Bonaire in Feb. Hope we didn't make a mistake. We have gone to Jamaica in the past and never ever had a problem. How do you keep from having things stolen from your truck? Where do you put the extra tanks?

No money in the tanks, so they don't bother them...

Don't let this stuff get you worried.

You will hear it numerous times between now and Feb, but here it is:

Leave your windows down at all times. Don't keep anything in your vehicle you can't do without. If you are wondering what to do with your car keys, either put them in a BC pocket or use a small dry container and put that in your BC.

Leaving valuables in your locked car with the windows up is inviting petty theft. It's a small island, the people are extremely friendly considering what we are doing to their island. What you hear about happens everywhere. It is unfortunate.

As far as burglaries go, if you're that concerned about it then you have plenty of time between now and then to come up with a game plan to mitigate this risk.

It's a great island.

I've wanted this to happen for years now.
Hey you! I thot you were banned for life here...

Well my opinion to some the questions asked. Staying on a resort is proably much safer, unsless u count the one listed earlier in the blog by Liz, where they broke into the room and removed the safe from the wall. As for the stolen goods, they're being sold to tourists, I saw a camera, looked very much like mine, being used by a fellow tourist dining at Lion's Den restaurant, it had a telescopic lens, he was fumbling with it and seemed unsure of how to use it, could ve been mine, who know's.

Rules for travel: travel lightly, bring only what u need, make sure its not something ur going miss if its stolen, stay at reputable places, get travel insurance, keep windows down in the vehicles and DIVE like theres no tomorrow

okay where are the "stolen" goods being sold to tourists spiritd1? I am finding your conclusion that someone fumbling with a camera like yours at some resort means its stolen very far fetched.

Hehe, buy a used camera cheap on Bonaire, pull the card out, stick it in your card reader for the laptop you foolishly brought with you, and Ta-Dah! You bought a camera already containing vacation pics - just not your vacation! "OMG, look at this one of her!"

okay where do you buy this "used" camera. I am curious DandyDon. Have you ever had someone come up to you offering such a thing on Bonaire?
