Wow $600-$1000 for 125 lbs of hard lead weights? Why so much?

For others like me who will undoubtedly be confused: "Go Pro" is a dive shop in the Caymans. This has nothing at all to do with GoPro cameras.

GoPro will continue supporting the youth programs here going forward. Yes it happened but the article was a little extreme They do have to replace the weights but I sincerely doubt Ash will give up his kids over it. We are partners with GoPro and I was at the graduation the other night. Thanks again to the wonderful work they do there were very delighted kids, proud parents, a proud official over from PADI etc. I truly don’t know why people believe everything they read or hear in the news. I guess drinking Koolaid becomes a habit. And yes Go Pro has nothing to do with the cameras and the name of the location they operate out of is not Go Pro Dive Shop. It’s a shared facility.

On average, lead is about $3-4 per lb. Cheaper in bulk, but then of course you have to get it to the island. When you ship 1000 lbs of anything, it gets expensive. Now add customs and import duty, which you not only pay on the cost of the item, but the freight as well.

By my rough estimation, we have about $600 of weight on each of our 3 boats, and another $1000 or so at the shop.

Technically a burglary, not a robbery. Burglary is when someone breaks in to steal something. Robbery is taking by force or intimidation from someone's person.

Takes a fair amount of force to lift that much lead.

... I wonder if their customers who are flying in could each slip an extra weight into their bags to help replace those stolen?

That's exactly what I was thinking. On American, business class passengers get 2 free bags at 70lbs each...

I think a cash donation would be simpler, they can order what they need and how they want it made and labeled. the extra money they can spend the extra in away that benefits the kids the most. post if they decide to do a go fundme.
