My most memorable Belize moment involved finding a dead Parrotfish (an ex-parrotfish;)) and feeding it to a 10'+ long Green Moray. I know they don't grow that big, but we measured it and you can argue that with him. This Parrotfish measured 18". The Moray swallowed him in one gulp.

OK, I don't get it ... the parrotfish is dead, and the moray is alive, right? I'm trying to get a picture in my head of you measuring a live moray of some significant length, and actually being able to come up with a number!

actually, green morays in particular are easy to measure if you have an exposed tail. They really don't mind divers and will just let you hang there and check them out without moving. We did the same thing with one in Bonaire last summer - he was at least 6' long, probably much longer but most of his body was inside a coralhead. His head was huge so we guessed he must have been double the length we measured across the coralhead.
Another one we measured in Coz several years ago - laying under an overhang and completely exposed. He didn't mind the group of divers lined up shoulder to shoulder staring at him and we measured the sand area in front of him at +10'. He just laid there and watched us. It was my first green moray, too, which made him all the more impressive! :D

This guy was basking on the sandy bottom. After he ate, we slowly swam up and were hoping that he would ease away- then we could just use our bodies to measure his divots in the sand.

Instead, he just sat there, digesting.

I came up on the sand right parallel to him. Larry measured us up, he was as long as I was including my very long free dive fins... with coiled body not counted in. Certainly longer than 8 feet, by quite a bit.

I measure a Barracuda at San Salvador using landmarks. As he drifted under the sponson SWATH hull of the Nekton, at one point he lined up with the shroud around the propellor. He was larger than that. About 7.5 feet across. Yikes.

Herbie's is one of the best at the very west tip! One of the best walls! I have done both Roatan and Belize many many times! I would chose the Live-a-Board in Belize first and then Roatan! Just experience! You can do Roatan much cheaper that is for sure and I like the north side of the island for diving a little better! I love Spooky Channel and Bears Den is fun! AKR's Dolphin Dive is one of the best! I use Bay Islands Beach Resort and like the homey feeling! You can compare both at our site with pictures and videos:
Two Tanked Productions HD & SD Underwater Productions and video services

I wish I had talked to you before wasting my time and money at Coco View last month!!!!!! If I ever go back to Roatan, maybe I'll try AKR. I was sucked into going to Coco View by RoatanMan so I would be very skeptical of any of his opinions/suggestions!!!!!! He appears to be one of those you find on forums who sound very convincing and knowlegdeable but, at the end of the day, have no real experience and get most of their knowledge off the web!!!
