Can you explain what AI stands for? I've seen this acronym in the forum a few times, and I have no idea what it means, haha.

Also, I'm going by myself. This shouldn't be a problem if I'm only going on boat dives with divemasters and don't do any shore diving, correct?

Again, new to diving, so I'm not sure how these things work.

Oh, and do you know if cabs are expensive on Roatan?

AI=All Inclusive. Diving, lodging, food, sometimes drinks are bundled in the price.

There's a little info here: Roatan Island Tourist Tips Taxi Fares

We paid $10pp. from the airport to the West End - in a shared van.

Cab rides I took - fwiw, there's a cab stand in the West End across the street from Coconut Tree Divers.
Other places someone had to call one - IDK if that affects the price.

Paid $6 one day to go from the West End to Anthony's Key. (2 of us)
Paid $15 to go to "downtown" Coxen Hole from the West End. (2 of us)
Paid $10pp. to go to Barefoot Caye from the West End. That was probably a deal.

Every cab ride is negotiable up-front. Cruise pax are charged more so make sure you mention you're staying local.
One time I had a cab driver ask me what I thought was fair from AKR to the west end of the West End. We settled on $10 since he had to drop me back farther east at our house.

Unless you're staying at Cocoview, Fantasy Island or Reef House there really isn't much shore diving anywhere else. There's only a couple places to get tanks even if you found someone to dive with - the resorts don't let theirs off-property - neither do most of the boat-based dive operators.

I know from personal experience that you can drive a cheap scooter from one end of the island to nearly the other in one day in a torrential downpour. The roads become muddy rivers.
