Kinda ---sorta---reminds me of when Playboy rented the Aggressor for a week------son could not get off work @ AKR but Julito told him they(4 Bunnies) were coming one day to do the dolphin stuff(@ AKR where he was working).....Yep I have a copy of the video done......check out March 2000's Playboy for the pics the 'kids' took for Playboy.....lol, & Playboy's photographer(who did NOT know how to dive---you can see them dragging him around by the yoke UW during the video..) was given credit for the photos...........

The housing area for Subway interns is in Brick Bay. So closer to activity, but still a distance from the dive business.

Hmm. On our last day there we dived from Frenchies -- Darren took us to the "other side" for a change -- Subway has a shop there. But that's still a bit of a distance to Brick Bay.

What is "isolated" depends on perspective. Their location might have been considered isolated 7 years ago, now it's looked at as what is the next big thing.

I agree completely with Doc. If you want an island vacation where all of the tourists are, go to West End or West Bay Beach. But if you are looking for a quality dive vacation, the dive sites further east are more pristine and the traffic (both boat and auto) is less.

Your son would benefit more from being around larger quantities of divers rather than more pristine, quality dive sites.

Subway used to have an excellent reputation and had a large contract for cruuse ship divers. The owner died a few years ago and though I've no reason to believe anything drastically changed at the Subway operation, I rarely hear anything about them at all anymore.

I've always loved the crews working at West End Divers but have also heard wonderful things about Coconut Tree.

If your son chooses West End village as the area to spend his 2 months, he shouldn't need to worry about how close is his lodging to the operation. As Doc said, you can walk everywhere in short order, especially if one is 19.

Oh and Ray Lopez doesn't own the dive operation at Sueno del Mar anymore.

Good for Ray, 'bout time that lil fella started slowing down..........Remember the original SDM shop---the one out over the water @ the end of the pier??......After a year or so Ray opened the Eagle Ray Restaurant up---before that, he let our 19 YO sleep/stay upstairs of the dive shop...Remember our son telling us he had to watch how he rolled outta bed---didn't want to fall in the ocean early in the morning.......let's see if I can a pic of it on line.....

I was very sorry when he moved his dive op from there, thst is until I started diving with Ocean but then Graham sold out of Ocean and I finally ended up at West End Divers where I dove happily ever after.

Tyll's just closed too with Dorte and Ewe returning to Denmark(?). Pretty sure it's Denmark.

Did you dive any with Ray when he had the dive shop @ Seagrape??....---ie before he started Sueno, (went on his own).......Got a story 'bout that move in fact.......

Hello! We're a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Center and have been running our busy internship program for over 10 years. We have certified hundred's of DMT's, lots who have successfully gone on to complete their Instructor training or continue working in the industry as DM's. I myself am included in that group and still work for Subway after completing my internship over three years ago. While our dive shop is located on the quieter east end of the island, we are one of the busiest dive shops on the island and the only shop to have both north and south side dive shop locations. Our internship house, which is filled with kids between the ages of 18-25, and some a little older, is located closer to the busy part of the island and we provide transportation to and from the touristy West End once or twice per week. We find that our interns get a very valuable experience here and bond with their fellow interns and develop life-long friendships, moreso than at other dive shops where interns are responsible for finding their own housing outside of the program. We provide contact information for former interns who are now working in the industry for your son to speak to directly, so you're not simply getting a bias opinion from our staff. We also offer real world experience for our interns working on a daily basis with our week long package dive guests, cruise ship guests, and walk-in guests who come to our shop for a variety of activities. What's more, we offer free trips to Pigeon Cay or Cayos Cochinos for all of our interns, and many other benefits that no other shops are offering! Again, my opinion is obviously bias, but as a former intern who still works for this shop out of the love and respect I have for it, I can 100% say I wouldn't have chosen any other dive shop to complete my training with.
