Roatan compared to Cozumel?

as Under Water said... the shore dives at SCC were easy, but that is the only place on Cozumel with such a shore diving setup.

the shore diving at CCV is very easy also, just a little longer walk around one building, not long just longer that at SCC. However, the having a wreck and 2 walls to shore dive at CCV gave more variety of coral and such. So though they are very different, they both offer great diving.

I found at SCC though it took all day to do 3 dives (2 boat dives, 1 shore dive) and at CCV I could get in 4 during the same period, all lasting about an hour. Part of the reason is that the reefs are farther from resort at SCC, so more time in transit. Plus the restaurant at SCC is sitdown ordering instead of buffet... so you spend more time waiting for food to arrive, etc. CCV is setup to get off boat, rinse off, and walk right into Clubhouse to eat. It can be done very quickly and you are back out diving.

I guess this is why my hometown US diving will never be compared, something to do with me heading out 20 miles or so for a two tank dive. OK, But seriously, I have to agree with those than shun the comparison thing. They are all different in their own ways, there are benefits and negatives at any place. Lets say FIJI, IMHO it blows away most if not all caribbean diving yet the combined 24 hour plane ride is brutal.
For a long time I vowed never even to visit the same place twice as there are so many to see. I broke that rule when I won a complete AI including air back to Cayman Brac from a photo contest. I can once again say I will never be back there unless maybe it is another paid in full AI trip. I mean come one, who could turn it down?
Most of my Roatan trips are trips with diving involved, not the typical DIVE trip as I may only do 10 or so dives a week. I used to frown on snorkeling but have since learned I like it at times, Say 2 am when I cant sleep and the seas call.
I guess the point is, your best to look at what you seek, what is offered and forget about comparing one place to another and judge for yourself with your own standards. What would become of the artist world if we started comparing Michaelangelo with Picasso, What would become of things if we compared either of those guys to Ansel Adams and then again How would Ansel compare with Stephen Frink, Eric Hanauer, Cousteau, etc..
There are just so many factors involved it is really impossible to comare one place to another. If you could Visit one place for a 1/4 the cost is it better? If you could do ten more mediocre dives as opposed to all stupendous dives would it be better?
Its like most of the NEW open water people that talk about having the BEST instuctor, Well lets face it, They only have had ONE so in all fairnesss they also had thier worst OW instructor

AMEN brother! Diving Fiji is something that should be on every diver's "Bucket List". You're right though...the trip is brutal - but SOOOOOOOO worth it

Fiji is not on my bucket list because I just got back from there. I agree it should be on every diver's bucket list. Air time to get there was 15 hours, but the complete trip will probably take 24 hours with layovers and getting from Nadi to where you will dive. The experience goes beyond world class diving with beautiful scenery and very good service at the better resorts. I thought the diving and service at Garden Isle was 11 out of 10, although their food was just average.

Probably its best not to make comparisons. Places have different features and different moods. Photographers don't like drift diving, other divers like to play superman in a fast current. Some want to barf when they see the shops and crowds in Coz, I find the scene amusing.

Steven Frink is good, Ansel Adams is a diety.

People have built careers based on comparing artists. Anyone serious about art would be wise to compare artists to see how they differ and how they excel in their own ways.
The same is true of how you spend your diving time and dollars. Comparison is good.
Comparing doesn't mean one is good and one is bad (although that may sometimes be true). It means you compare enough attributes to discern differences that matter to you so that you can make an informed decision about how to spend your time, energy and money.

Less than the number that are trying to make it with underwater imagery.

Nowadays, anyway.

I DO...I DO But it's not very profitable...all expenses and no income
