We had a great time last week diving in Roatan with the folks at Anthony's Key Resort. Here's what happened and what we saw:
Enjoy!!!

Thanks for the detailed trip report. I had no idea about the problem of smoke from sugar cane burning on the mainland. From what I read, it typically happens through the end of May. I head to AKR June 24, so I'm hoping that smoke isn't an issue by then. Regardless, your report piques my interest for my trip!

Where does one have a chance to snorkel with wild dolphins? Or is that just dumb luck?

Really great report!

We went to CCV resort at the end of April and had a similar impression with the reef. It’s degraded, but still fun diving. The overall experience makes it worth it, but the coral is not what it used to be (like everywhere in the Caribbean).

Excellent report! How were the sand flies?

How were the sand flies?
I got bitten the first day - maybe a dozen bites - on my feet and halfway up my shin. (I'm also NOT a flip-slops guy - always wearing shoes and socks.) Didn't hurt or itch. They cleared up in a couple of days. My girlfriend (and some others in our group) got bitten a bit more. Overall, perhaps a mild nuisance, but not a problem.

Good to hear. Thanks

Dumb luck and a willing boat captain who stopped.
It happened to my boat on my last trip to AKR. Captian was watching a tourist dolphin chasing boat to our rear, saw dolphins breaching the surface, stopped, yelled "grab your fins and masks and jump now!"
