1) N. Monastery
2) Carmel River Beach
3) Lovers (beware the time restrictions!!)
4) McAbee (do this early for parking)

I'd put Lobos ahead of all these. You just have to do the surface swim all the way out to where the kelp ends.

The Lover's Pt. time restrictions are only in effect May 1 through Sept. 30. http://www.divingsingles.org/lovers.htm

It is exactly because of this that I'd put other dive sites ahead of Lobos; it's a 1/8 mile swim to get out to 30 foot deep water (where the vis might improve enough that you might see something other than your gloves), and usually, 1/8 mile back.

For those with a boat, or with a scooter, this is trivial. But 1/4 mile on the surface, every dive, becomes old when you're kicking.

I love Lobos as much as any person, maybe even more. It's just that the stuff that makes Lobos sooooo special, though, is such a long kick from shore. (Unless you're Team Bunny with their 2 hour bottom times, eh?)

All the best, James
