Was making a research about rigging stage bottles. I am confused with regards to the number of inner tubes people use:confused: .

From this link, I see that only one is being used:
http://dir-diver.com/en/equipment/stagebottle_rigging.html

But when the stage is complete with regulators, some added another one to secure the second stage:

While some also didn't add it.

It also looks like some some uses bungie as well.

What's the benefit/disadvantage for having the second inner tube for the second stages? Why or why not have one? Are bungies ok?

I see 2. One up high and one around the hose clamp which is how my deco and stages are all done.

2 inner tubes unless you have a clip on the second stage of your deco/stage reg. That way when one breaks you still have one to stow under plus stowing under 2 makes things much neater and you don't have hose hanging out trying to catch on things.

Can't see why bungies wouldn't be OK as well.

yeah, we all use 2 here (although when re-stowing a reg after using the tank, just put it under one unless you have monkey arms)

The bungee tends to ride down the tank easier, as demonstrated by Gideon on a buddy's stage. Can be annoying.

From my limited experience. Bungies roll whereas inner tubes do not. Inner tubes can be hard to lift up over the hose especially with gloves. My solution has been the middle. I use bands that are 1/8 thick and made from rubber. Think tie straps used hold canvas tarps on semi trailers.

As for one or two bands. I currently use one on my 30 and 40 bottles. But pull the hose through so that the reg is next to the band. It works but is not quite as neat as two. But I have a second an inner tube that covers the band clamp. Which I can use if the other breaks.

With all of that said what size innertube do you use for 40's?

car tire inner tube. Not 100% sure of the size.
The innertube is easy to pull up as the top one runs *over* the fuel hose and so there's an easy gap to grip.

You dont need to manipulate the bottom innertube underwater unless the top one breaks (then you can have a buddy help)

Thanks a ton!!! Got what I am looking for.

Not sure I understand this. Once you deploy and want to restow are you not going to be grabbing at the bottom tube?

Generally just the top one. Once you get more than one stage under your arm, reaching the bottom one is a pain.

If you are really anal (no offense meant) I guess you could, but in practice people seem to just stow it under the top one.

before you get in the water, you stow it under both to keep from getting it caught up on stuff.

Then the lower one is a spare in case one breaks U/W (then you might need a buddy to help reach it)
