Will post part numbers and URLs by the end of the week. Has anyone measured the "big thick" o-rings as seen in the pic?

Follow up questions and thoughts...

Given that we are dealing with low pressure, I presume that standard Buna o-rings are fine. Also, Seems they're medium Dura so anywhere from 70 to 75 should do. Am I off?

Thank you!

Okay folks, so I confirm the dimensions. While I haven't installed these rings yet, they pass the visual test.

Specifications provided below are cross-section (width) x inner diameter (ID)
.

All o-rings below are Viton, 75 Dura. You can probably get away with non-Viton.

Inner barrel, DSV opening (oval):
1.5mm x 30mm
McMaster-Carr

Inner barrel-end:
1.5mm x 27mm
McMaster-Carr

Barrel lever:
1mm x 6mm
McMaster-Carr

Waking up the old thread. I did a lot of testing over the last week, as not all 1.5mm o-rings worked in the barrel. It seemed that some o-rings where just a bit thicker than required and shredded easily while I was inserting the inner tube into the DSV barrel.

Based on my conversations with people who deal with o-rings often, o-ring tolerances are +/- 0.080mm. These tolerances may explain the differences between o-rings selected by rEvo and the ones I got off the shelf from McMaster Carr. After measuring ~100 o-rings with certified calibrated calipers, I can see the difference.

rEvo supplied rings slide in/out easily from certified calibrated calipers set to 1.5mm. O-rings obtained from McMaster Carr require some force. Moreover, some third-party o-rings slides easier (almost fall out) than others.

TL;DR - seems $13/barrel rebuilt kit is worth it unless you have too much time on your hands.

EDIT: Next try - will go down the ID size by 0.5mm so 26.5mm and 29.5mm respectively to see if the additional stretch reduces the cross-section by the desired amount.

You made me curious about my orings. A couple years ago i bought a quantity of orings in the different sizes for my DSV and made up my own kits to service mine. I have serviced/replaced the orings in the DSV annually with no issues. I just finished measuring the cross section of the 10 orings for the barrel opening 1.5mm X 30mm.
1.47,1.49,1.47,1.49,1.50,1.49,1.49,1.48,1.49,1.48
orings were purchased at OringsandMore.com I have not had any trouble installing and diving my DSV.

Yep, this confirms what I am seeing, and thank you very much for the tip!

1.50mm is the standard metric o-ring CS size. The actual measurement is 1.52mm. The o-rings you've picked up fall into the 0.080mm tolerance window but are on the skinnier side. The o-rings I picked up were a lot closer to 1.51-1.52mm. I'll check out the store you mentioned and will keep you posted.

@Divermikey - I just got another o-ring batch from the store you've mentioned. No dice. All 1.5mm CS o-rings are 1.51-1.52mm

I was taught that you install the orings dry into the grooves and then lubricate them.

Also I can see different calipers being different by .01mm Maybe try a micrometer?

Perhaps, but when I measure rEvo-supplied DSV o-rings, I can see the difference.

Yes, install dry, then lubricate and let the oval o-ring sit there for some time to take the form.

Adventures continue ;-)
