It sounds like you are looking for versatility in the rig, and your concern is not necessarily related specifically to only performance as a sidemount rig.
Yes you're right. Most of my diving is now sidemount, but I don't want a cold water rig, warm rig & another back rig.
I find there's too much bulk in the transpac harness, hense my change to a more dir like webing.
The rec wing bungies well to keep air low in the wing, for sidemounting. I don't like the anti-taco staps as they cover my rear D rings. I'm condsidering adding belt loops to outer bag.
