I've had this happen twice, and I found for me even better than a slow ascent, was no ascent. (Obviously not forever. :wink: ) Get as shallow as you can without pain to conserve air, but I think you'll usually have the most problem when you get to a shallower depth. As long as you've got air and there's no emergency, just try giving things a rest for a bit instead of trying to keep coming up.

Exactly. This worked for me. It's everything opposite descending. Go back down until the pain subsides and suck in holding your nose. Continue all the way up to the surface. I did have this happen once free diving though. That really sucked. I was lucky.
