I bought one of those $20 retractors that fits inside a pocket and extends out through a grommet to attach to an Oceanic ProPlus console. It's not strong enough and the console hangs downs a foot or so.

Anyone one know of a similar retractor that's strong enough to hold it in position?

I have this one on a Pro Plus 2 and it seems to work just fine. I do wish the cable was a few inches longer, but it seems to have plenty of strength to pull the comp. back in. What BC do you have? If it's an Oceanic Chute 3, Probe, Flex, or Isla you already have the corresponding mounting point built-in.

What brand is the retractor? I use a Cetacea mini high force retractor with my computer and it works great. Some retractors handle a very light load and some a heavier load, they are not the same but may look like it. Most likely you need a high force retractor so it dosn't hang down.

Thanks to both of you. I did come acrss a high force Aqua-Lung retractor that works great. Tried it out today.

I tied a loop of 1/8" bungee cord through the holes in the console and just clip off the bungee loop to a D-ring with a double ender. You can adjust the length of the bungee to pull the computer up close when not in use, but far enough away to read when you want to.

A low tech, low cost solution. Much more compact than retractors.

I can go even more low tech than those. Tuck it inside your left harness strap, under your arm and just under your ribs. Keeps it from dangling around on the bottom, and it's always in the same spot when you need to take a look.

I went High-Tech and got an AquaLung branded retractor with high force in the name. It's a tad large compared to others but my wifes ProPlus2 doesn't move unless she wants it to.
