A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after being rescued from the sea in cardiorespiratory arrest whilst he was scuba diving off the coast of Tabaiba, in the Tenerife municipality of El Rosario yesterday (Monday), according to a report by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

They received an alert requesting urgent assistance for an unconscious diver who had suffered a heart attack in the water and had been pulled out of the sea by his diver friends, but wasn’t breathing.

The leader of the group, a qualified rescue diver, started CPR under the instruction of the health coordinator at the 112 call centre, whilst paramedics were dispatched to the Tabaiba beach to assist.

Upon arrival, the SUC personnel verified that the diver was still in cardiorespiratory arrest, so they continued with basic and advanced CPR manoeuvres until they managed to resuscitate him and start him breathing again.

After stabilizing him, they transferred him to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria, where he was admitted in critical condition for further treatment.
