Just completed my Rescue Diver course yesterday. For those of you who have done AOW let me strongly recommend the Rescue Diver course. It's definitely improved my diving and its very enjoyable!

Good morning. I have been considering taking that class but know very little about the content of it. Forgive me for what may seem like a naive question but what makes this such a "must take" class? Aside from the obvious of being able to deal with a "stressed" diver... I hear/read about the class giving them more insight on their own ability and improving their own diving skills, how does that happen? I can't think of any times that I heard anyone "downplay" the class or content.

I called one of our LDS and it looks like they may have a class in a couple weeks. I told them to sign me up and would like to know what to expect. From what I understand, the class here consists of three days of class work and two days of diving. Is that consistant with how the class is taught elsewhere?

Best Regards
Don Costanza

PS. Not to get off on a rant but a "must take" class from my perspective is DIR/F. Had the class last weekend, very humbling weekend but also very productive and insightful!
Got a lot of "stuff" to work on...

Good morning. I realized after I posted it. (Duh:bonk:) I could've just checked it out at the PADI site. The course I'm looking at is via PADI. I don't spend much time at PADI's site and thats why it didn't come to me prior to posting my question.

Thanks for the link...

Best Regards

I did the PADI course which consisted of:

1 day for Medic First Aid

1 day in the classroom

1 and 1/2 days in the water.

I found it was useful to learn the signs of what my lead o a panicked/stressed diver and particularly the effects such as what they term "perceptual narrowing". Also if I was to come across a panicked diver whether on the surface or underwater I would stand a much better chance of not ending up as another victim and might even be of some help to that diver. I think that achievement naturally builds self confidence so as I indicated I would strongly recommend the course - it's not a "must take" but the benefit I got from it made it worthwhile.

Philip

I agree that it's a great class. I get to play victim this weekend for some Divemasters in training. Time to get a little "revenge"!

I have been looking around and have found that I can take the American Red Cross course or one from the American Heart Association.

Are either of these courses sanctioned?

Likely both are, certainly the Red Cross one is.
