Which first aid course do I need to take to satisfy the requirement for rescue diver? There's standard first aid and there's emergency first aid. Do I need to take standard before I take emergency first aid?

It's a holiday here in Canada so I figured it'd be faster to hear from you guys, thanks.

The instructor doing your rescue can do both. A emergency first aid course does it. DAN, PADI or red cross, st. John's as well I believe.

I'd recommend the DAN course. They have instructors listed on their website all over Canada. Good material and with a dive flavour depending on the instructor.

St. Johns is longer and more thorough than EFR. Big Book. You do (I did anyway) bandaging. Everyone passes either one, so it's up to each person to review the stuff periodically. To be absolutely certain, make sure the shop where you'll do Rescue approves of whatever course you want to take. Once that's done and you finish Rescue no one will look at which CPR course you did.
