Does anyone have experience diving while taking Requip (at the low dosage for treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome)? Any medical professionals have an opinion on the safety of this drug for divers?

Hi Thos,

Not surprisingly, there have been no reported studies of Requip (ropinirole HCl) and diving.

However, those taking this drug have reported symptoms that are of obvious concern for safe scuba. These include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and difficult to control urges. They tend to be dose-dependent and the lower the dose the better for diving, although perhaps not for the RLS.

As with all medications, Requip should be given an adequate topside trial before scuba to assess for problematic adverse effects.

Helpful?
