A friend of mine is having some great difficulties with operating the knobs on her OMS manifold. This is probably due to the fact that the knobs are pretty small and grip on the plastic material just doesn't make it easy:

We were discussing about the possibilities of replacing those small plastic knobs with larger rubber ones that is being used on likes of Halcyon. http://www.halcyon.net/acc/manifold.shtml
Or knobs like this:

Would this be possible. In other words, are there any specific specification on the types of knobs being used on each manifolds? Can we just replace it as we wish?

There should not be any issue changing knobs. Just don't lose the spring when you take it off. I'm looking at three tanks now with three different knobs that I just swapped around in order to get some consistency. No problems at all and one was an older sherwood j-valve. As long as it clears the valve body itself you are good to go.
