Hmmmm....trying to pick out the data from this video and the objective determinations made....they escaped me...I have several Bendomatics if anyone wants one... But know a little about the Edge since our dive team did surveys for 3 years doing two dives a day for 21 days non-stop each sampling run from 10fsw to 115fsw on North-Coast of California while diving the Edges. The Brick was found to be for the era a good dive computer as did later iterations in the Marathon and Phoenix. We included 15fsw SS for 5-10mins depending on the profile. To my knowledge they were [are?] a respected dive computer Huggins is sharp, was [is?] running the chamber on Catalina and is a really nice guy.

And yes, I still have a couple of unused "Bricks" ; just can't get rid of them.....too much history.

Just the nickname you use on your side of the Atlantic for SOS decompression meters says it all.

You can easily find the documents relating Carl Edmonds' comments and findings on the SOS and the EDGE.

I have not found anything that questions Huggins' work on the decompression model supplied to Orca Industries. He probably did the work he was asked to do, which was to develop an algorithm to calculate decompression continuously during a real dive. Even Edmonds never took the liberty of accusing him of having botched the work (I’m not sure that I can use this french phrase) on successive dives and I don't believe he ever spoke on the subject.

Nevertheless, some physiologists of the time had their doubts...

SOS Bendomatic [1959] and Edge [1983] are not same computer, not by a mile. To compare an Edge to an SOS dive computer is like comparing a long bow to a modern sniper rifle....perhaps I miss interpreted your message.

FYI, I no longer dive an Edge [have not for decades], but do use the Orca Phoenix as a back up for my Peregrine.....

No problem. I will note and post any differences between the computers from my next dive which should be next Thursday.... snow still on the ground here...dive @ 4,300 FT ABSL......

I am not an advocate for or against dive computers. I believe that the safety of the diver is entirely their responsibility. Skills and judgement will make them safe, not equipment. Having many times read "Diving Medicine for Scuba Divers" [Edmonds et al], "The Physicians Guide to Diving Medicine", "The Physiology and Medicine of Diving" [Bennett et al], "Diving and Subaquatic Medicine" [Edmonds et al], "Technical Diving In Depth" [Wienke] and other similar books, I can only attest to this: More is unknown than known.

Today there are many pundits and naysayers on all diving related topics. Experts? Only for the moment. Especially in today's environment of "Influencers'" determining the truth of current paradigms makes ferreting out the reality at best difficult. I understand the skepticism and if not dogmatic, it will advance scientific inquiry.

Often overlooked in my opinion in all the rhetoric concerning dive profiles and algorithms/computers/tables is the very real likelyhood that ALL divers produce hyperbaric/hypobaric micro-nuclei and "bubbles" that in turn will damage tissue. How much damage and the accumulating affect should be given a priority in determining the safety of diving. So called "Diving Stress" rather than "DCS" may be the overlooked form of DCI that ultimately will injury more if not all divers.

Just my opinions and I could be wrong.
