HeyMikey:
Anyone have any suggestions on where to rent underwater photo equipment on the island?

There's only one place I would even consider because you won't find anywhere better...

Island Photo! You can contact Holly or Armando by e-mail in advance to reserve your system at photocozumel@ecozumel.net

They are awesome people and also do custom film/slide processing, digital downloads to CD's, etc. etc.

AND...they can even help you get into your own sytem if you want their expert advice!

Have fun!

Ditto, ditto, ditto

I have been using their services for years and when it came time to FINALLY purchase my own camera I did it from Holly and Armando. (see signature below)

With the help and advice I've recieved from them over the years, some people look at my pics and actually mistake me for an underwater photographer!!! :D

I agree with both of the above. I rented from Holly and Armando in June. You won't find anything better on the island. Most of the pics in my gallery were taken with a Sea & Sea 3000G with YS25 autostrobe, no wide angle. It was our (wife and I) first time trying UW photo. They do a great job of setting up beginners.

Try to rent for multiple days if you can. They'll give you a break on the daily rate. More importantly, there's a learning curve. Your pictures on day 2 and 3 will be much better than day 1. Make sure you rent the strobe too. Have fun.

DITTO. Holly and Armando are great people and they go out of their way to please. Just glad I am not renting anymore!!!........lol

Holly and Armando are fabulous. And if you can, don't just rent from them, consider taking a photo specialty course. Several did during the PADI Dive Fiesta a couple weeks ago, and they went from absolute beginners to having some really nice pictures.

You can't go wrong with them.

I second Ambers suggestion, take a photo class if at all possible. I learned more in Holly and Armando's class than I ever did from anywhere else.

How I left the photo class part out of my post escapes me...I myself took a photo lesson just last week from Holly to learn how to use my digital camera (I've always used a Nikonos which Armando brought back from the dead after I flooded it and other stuff...literally)! The difference in my pictures was night and day after that course...although I still have a long way to go, but it's all about practice and learning from critiques of the photos.

Holly also ordered my strobe for my camera and I'll have it in a couple of short weeks! They are a one stop shop when it comes to anything regarding photography.

Christi, you need to take more pics with all the dives you go on. Please share more the pics in your gallery are great.

Here are 2 that Christi took with my camera... it was really cool to see her slowly swim up so close to the turtle. If it were me, it would have bolted long before I got close.
