My wife and I are planning a trip to Australia next year. It will involve both sightseeing and some diving. We're thinking about renting gear there and just taking regs, skins, and masks, rather than lug all of our gear or shipping it.

We both have Scubapro MK25/S600 regs, and our secondary air source(s) are AIR2 integrated on the BC.

So my question is, if we rent BC's, are they likely to have secondary sources or do we need to get Octos before the trip?

Please, I've read all the threads about the pros and cons of AIR2 vs a dedicated Octo, but haven't heard any discussion about this.

I've never seen rental gear with an AIR2 but I've never been to Austrailia, so I can't comment on what is common there. Where I live shop owners mostly won't rent BC's with AIR2s because they are generally considered less safe.

Highly unlikely the in-line alt air source will be included in rental gear.... stressing highly. Many of my dives have been vacation dives around the world and I have yet to see it.

You could touch base with a few dive shops prior to going and see what rental gear they have. If it is about buying an octo to go with, it seems to me you might as well either leave your reg at home, or take your BC with you...
