We will be arriving in Cancun at 3:15pm, and travailing by shuttle to Playa and take the ferry across which will put us at Coz i'm estimating around 6:30pm. Looking at some of the larger rental car companies they seem to close up by 5-6pm. The only company I found was open until 8pm was Avis, but not the office at the Ferry Pier. The 2 offices they show open was one at the Cruse ship Pier and one at Puerta Maya Cozumel Pier. I did some google searches and one forum review said the office at the Cruse ship pier was closed by 2pm. If anyone has arrived late at Coz where did you end up renting a car from? We will be staying in a condo 10 miles south of San Miguel, so we will need a rental car for the week.

I like Isis but do not know their hours:

Cozumel - Isis Rentadora - Cozumel, Mexico

Also look into Thrifty at the airport which is a short taxi ride from the ferry.

Another option is taxi to Mega, get an initial supplies for the night/morning, taxi to condo then taxi into town for the rental car.

I don't know when they close, but my rental guy works out of the little pedestrian mall on the corner of the square at the ferry pier. He might meet you. Pirata/Rooster Rentals. And Margarita from Isis might have someone meet you too. She is a dear. If you are coming low season they would probably be even more willing to me you.

Another vote for Isis. The best overall for rental car experience IMO .

If Margarita at Isis (or, I'm sure, the proprietor of any of the other local agencies) knows your planned arrival time, she can make sure there's someone at the office. Her office is close enough to walk from the ferry pier.

When I've arrived really late (the last ferry, for example) I've just taken a taxi to my house then had her deliver a car to there the following morning. We have had them do this when we stayed at hotels, as well.

I have heard from more then one Isis has a good rep I was looking at some other travel forms and more then once they said stay clear of the smaller rental car companies sometimes they try to change the price when go to return the car. I will contact Margarita, and see what the best solution is I'm not sure if they will deliver to where we are staying it's a condo called the Residencias Reef.

Margarita (Isis) may be small but she is honest and ethical.

Looking at Isis prices there flat rates are $35 a day from Avis I can use my credit card for the insurance to cover the car and add $12 a day for the enhanced liability. .

Why wouldn't you just take a taxi to your condo that night and deal with the rental car the next day? You're saving a day of car rental fees in the process anyways.

Because if he rents a car that night, he can stop off at Mega, buy that night's dinner and breakfast at the least. By buying breakfast, if one wants to sleep in a bit more, the other can fix some breakfast without getting too hungry and grumpy waiting for the sack rat to get up.

Cost of one day of renting the car will probably be saved by eating those first two meals in.
