Paper with abrasive grit glued to it works the same as paste with abrasive grit suspended in it. You rub the abrasive on the surface. Using the right grit is key. Too course and you'll rough up the surface a lot. Too fine and you'll have a LOT more work to do, if you ever can complete the job.
