I know there isn’t a large Aqualung DIY presence on SB but thought I would ask.

Eric has dove his AL Legend ACD for 300+ dives but has recently decided the ACD feature makes him uncertain of the safety, especially since he does a fair amount of solo. I am near certain I read here that it is a simple fix by just removing the ACD component but thought I would ask if anyone has experience in this before I tore it down to take a look.

Thanks.

I agree 1000%.
The ACD was a stupid feature that solved a problem that no conscientious diver is really worried about. And if you leave salt water droplets at the first stage inlet without drying it before hooking up a tank, then the ACD does nothing as soon as you pressurize: the salt droplets get blown right into the first stage. So if you still have to dry the inlet, why have an ACD?

PM me. I'll send you the manual parts to disassemble the ACD and leave it gone. Yes, I've done it for friends.

Good decision.

It depends if the legend is the older body from 2002 to 2012. if so, you can get the non-ACD din fitting, handwheel, and filter.

46 ---- 129151 Filter (non-ACD)
50----- 129117 DIN Handwheel (non-ACD)
51----- 129125 DIN Fitting (non-ACD)

for 2013 and newer, the ACD became standard and i am not sure a non-ACD fitting exists for the new body.

I would have to look back at my receipts but I do recall that he had the option of ACD or not. :(

rsingler. Sending pm now. Thanks.

CORRECTION!

While it is feasible to remove the shutter valve from a yoke connection and get rid of the ACD, it is NOT feasible with DIN.
The shutter valve holds the crown with the high pressure o-ring in place and the DIN wheel will not be held in position if the shutter valve is not present.
I am currently checking into whether pre 2012 DIN fittings can be mounted on a Post-2012 Legend to get rid of the ACD.
Stand by...

Thanks. I discussed this with Eric and he decided to just buy another Non ACD Aqualung. We are doing more travel so less need for DIN now so will take the oppotunity to switch to yoke too. Will probably put this one up for sale soon.

Thanks again rsingler. You are the best.

Lisa

If he wasn’t planning to sell it I would tear it apart and see what happens.
