Getting alot of job offers from the WPB, Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale areas. Upcoming trip to coming up for interviews, but looking at surround areas for rents and to get a better idea of living costs. What surrounding areas aren't off the wall rentwise? Just looking for something average till I get settled in and probably around 1k-1.2k a month. Less possibly, but I know the season is coming. Travel distance would rather under 30 miles, but close enough to the coast for diving...of course. :D

Figured I'd throw this out here seeing as I'm getting stuff all over the place costwise and more familiar with the west coast. Just looking for suggestions so I can narrow down some searches.

I'm ill informed to properly answer the questions you have, but I can say Welcome to the area.. I'm sure we'll meet diving soon! Fall and Winter are upon us and that means more East coast diving for me!

There will be others from that area posting the info your after soon ;)

Thanks Cbulla, not there yet but the offers I have gotten are waaaayyy to good to pass up. Most are the east coast...:D Couple are in Largo, St Pete area also. But I kinda know more about that area. And 3 offers in Kona, HI.....no money discussed there yet.

what do you do? sounds like a good profession

Custom woodworking. Mainly I work on a CNC and program it for different jobs. Diving has altered my future plans though so here I am.

Almost ANYWHERE you find in a populated area in Broward/Palm Beach counties is within 20 minutes of the beach.

What kind of place are you looking for? For $1200 you can get a really nice 1 bedroom apartment or something. It's not had to find cheaper rents than that at all, but again, depends on what you are looking for.

Everything here is super populated, anywhere you find a job, there will be nice housing within 10 miles, let alone 30...
I personally like central broward (fort lauderdale/hollywood/sunrise/plantation) and pembroke pines is awesome as well.

Just wasnt sure what areas are better than the others as I haven't been in that area in a long time. 1 bedroom is fne, actually dont need much at the beginning, till I get to know the area better then I can decide I quess. So far the best offer is in the Pompano Beach area.

There are lots of people who can't sell their homes or condos right now, and if they have to move, they are stuck stuck stuck with two mortgages. You might be able to work out a sweet deal renting a home or condo from someone who's having a tough time meeting two mortgages. Once you know where you are moving to, check with the biggest realtor in that area if this idea intrigues you!

Go Kona if you can. Liokai on this board lives there and is a woodworker also. Any other part of the Big Island I'd say skip it, but I always liked Kona a lot.

Yeah was thinkng about that, was actually looking at pre-foreclosures today. Definitely a thought.
