regulators that work in warm AND cold water?

If you read the ScubaPro catalogue it says in there that the Mk25 is not the best choice for cold water in the 35° - 40° range IIRC. The Mk17 was listed as a better choice for that range. I do have a buddy that dives the Mk25 up in the Puget Sound and to the best of my knowledge has never had an issue with it. That being said, I recently dove an Atomic B2 and loved how well I could draw a breath from it.

I don't put much faith in a lot of these comments regarding cold water and the piston regs. This is the spec non-silicone filled mk10 (32$ eBay) that I use in the local quarry (40 f) without issue.


There is nothing wrong with a sealed diaphragm, but the mk10 is easy to work on and the annual parts are cheap.

Ironically I looked this information up on Scubapros site before I got the MK25. The webpage listed it as a good cold water rig. This was a while ago. I have no recollection of seeing the MK17. I thought it was a new regulator up until recently which I now understand is not the case. I guess it might get cold in the Puget Sound. Some places more than others. I have dove a couple places there (Redondo and Alkie Cove 2) in late September. The water seemed pretty comfortable and was warmer than we are talking about I think. You will likely correct me as I have never been there in the winter but the more info the better. The information on the webpage didn't give actual temperature ranges that I found. I just remember it saying it was a cold water regulator.
