I'm looking to upgrade/transition to a better suited regulator setup.

I'm currently running a SCUBAPRO/Suunto Setup.

MK25 (Plain)
S600 (Plain)
R295
Suunto Vyper 2, 2 Gauge Console [Computer/SPG]

I dive cold water, <50deg, only. Unfortunately my LDS took me for a ride when I bought this setup. But heh, I was younger then.

If I were to sell this setup now, what would a conservative/middle range price be?

Or split it up?

Who told you that you need to upgrade ? There is nothing to upgrade to from your setup... for the range of temps you mentioned.

You should be worrying about S600 if you go below 40F... Do not waste your money dive your current setup, it's an awesome setup especially if you do not experience any freeflows. If you experience second stage free flows then consider switching to G250V but it should not be happenoing in the 40+ range

I suspect that the better air consumption you are experiencing has more to do with your increased comfort in the water and nothing to do with screwing in the knob.........you've got a high performance reg, no point in turning it into a dog by de-tuning it!

I felt like having the Venturi adjustment all the way open was like having air forced down my throat, it almost felt uncontrolled. It was like trying to take a sip of water, but instead dumping the glass of water on yourself, if that makes sense.

I told myself I need to upgrade, hah. Maybe not upgrade, but sidestep. I guess I'll look into a better cold water reg like the 250.

I've yet to experience a free flow at depth, however the S600 did free flow once, but that was user error when I left the knobs in the wrong position.

Scubapro 2nd stages with the venturi adjustment tend to have an "aggressive" boost which some don't like.
Since you seem to be going in the direction of swapping out your 600 and you like the idea of all metal construction you probably would be best served by a 156 (balanced adjustable) which doesn't have the VIVA venturi adjustment and has a more "natural" breathing feel.....it's also the coolest looking reg around.

Nah, I would not bother... where are you located geographically ?

If you want jack up the cool factor go for A700 second stage :D That would look way cooler than 250 and will make the pockets lighter :)

NJ, however all of my diving is in MA, CT, PA.

No guarantee the cool factor of this stage would be recognized by an average diver:)

You should be fine with S600, Most seconds with venturi in full pluss will flow , I think they are tuned this way... If tuned improperly even super cold regs will flow... I can start the freeflow with the knobs on my Zeagle ZX even in 60F water:)
