Cozumel SCUBA Repair serviced my Rig last Spring. Did a great job and in a very timely manner.

it was a holiday weekend ad they still got it back to me in 2 days ... very happy with the service.

If your reg has been serviced within 1-2 years - it should be good to go......plus, if there is some small issue, your dive op should have a spare/rental you can use while they get it fixed. If it is a good high end reg - the chances of having an issue are slim and slimmer. :) Unless you put it up after last use after soaking it in mud and salt water - it should work just fine.

I service mine yearly, but it is a scuba pro and they don't charge me at my LDS so I do it for giggles. Otherwise I would do it every 2-3.

Concur with The Master.

Everyone should be capable of doing a few checks to verify the health of their regulators. An IP gauge can be found here for just a few dollars.
Intermediate Pressure Gauge with BC Quick Disconnect Fitting ITP-07

At $8, this is the best price I have ever seen on an IP gauge, not sure how long LeisurePro will have them on sale but if anyone does not have one it would be a great excuse for self gifting at Xmas.

I used to follow the manufacturer/LDS recommendations to service regs every year. I think at least nowadays, these are more based on liability concerns and/or a desire to generate revenue. And I've found after service is exactly when most problems occur. I now follow "if it's not broke don't fix it." Maybe every few years. There's no way I would travel someplace with a reg that worked fine and mess around getting it serviced at my destination.
