im a budget minded kinda guy and almost alway buy used stuff to save $$$ when i can. so how much on average do regulator services run? is it one price for all or per stage? thanks for the help guys :D

typically shops charge "per stage".

I'd say labor will average you $15 to $25 per stage. So that's $45 to $75 for labor for 3 stages, (1st stage, 2nd, octo).

don't forget parts. Expect parts to average $50-$60 for 3three stages, depending on brand.

so let's say that you buy a used regulator off EBAY, etc and save $200 bucks off a new one.

Did you really save $200 bucks?

Figure that you'll want it serviced when you get it to make sure it's safe to dive. Figure $60 labor and $60 parts. ($120 total).

Then figure you'll get it serviced every year and most new regulators come with "free parts warranty" if serviced annually. so over the next 4 years, you save $60/year on parts. ($240 total).

So your initial service is $120 (average) and over the next 4 years you're saving $240 average on parts that you would have to pay if you got a used one serviced. So that's $360 total in just a 4 year period. Which easily surpasses the $200 you saved instead of buying new. makes it a better deal to "buy new" if you get it service every year.

Now you might find a reg that is 'dirt cheap' used, but most of the time folks want about the same thing used as what you can buy them from a "grey market" new dealer. (because they originally bought them from a full price MSRP shop).

just my thoughts....

thanks for the info mike, i was at a dive shop today and it said services-regulator-$40.00"plus parts" so i guess ill keep looking for a place with a better price.

"40 plus parts" is pretty cheap. (for 3 stages) I doubt you'll find a place that will do it any cheaper.

If you do... you might "get what you pay for".

I added some more information to my above reply also if you want to re-read it.

im pretty sure he wanted 40 per stage. lol

**ouch**. $120 plus parts per recreation set. (1st,2nd, octo) that's not cheap.

The parts for my reg run about $60 bucks. that's put my reg at $180 for yearly service. as I said.... **ouch**

i paid 40 bucks for my regs and there in great shape. i got them from a friend that got them when his dive buddy passed away. they work perfect but i would rather be safe then sorry.

U.S. Divers Conshelf first stage with Conshelf 22 second stage and octopus. o yea and i got a free dive knife with it. :eyebrow:

Call this shop and check about the price. This sounds like what my shop charges for my whole set. I recently had a used reg checked out and they had to do a rebuild of the seals on the first stage and it cost me $60.00 total.
