I am interested in finding out what different brands of regulators cost to service. Please indicate whether the regulator is in or out of warranty or if it is subject to a free parts for life deal like Scubapro.

To start things off, I pay $50 labor for a Scubapro 1st, 2nd and octopus with free parts. A few people that I have been diving with are paying $80 (with parts) for the same thing out of warranty and $90 if the octopus is an Air 2.

I would especially like to hear from owners of Apeks, Atomic and Oceanic regulators. Let me know if a warranty or free parts program applies or not.

but I'll have to wait until my reg (Apeks) comes back from service. It's been in "service" going on 2 1/2 months now, no telling when it will be ready for pick up. :upset:

But as soon as I know, I'll post.

LDS charged me $70.00 for Mk2/R190 and $45.00 for Air 2,including parts, not in warrenty. As a result of their high price and snotty service, I do it myself now.

Zeagle-free parts for life, provided the regs were purchased thru an authorized dealer (warranty is void for online sales, purchased used, etc). Also, must do annual service thru authorized service center to keep warranty intact. They do allow a 30 day grace period on that 12 month window. I don't know what service will cost yet- I have 2 LDS's withine 10miles who sell and service these. I remember reading that Atomic regs are gauanteed for life even if not serviced regularly. What would be considered a fair price for servicing (without parts) for 1st, 2nd and octo for a set of generic regs?

Most of the shops around here are $20/stage (sometimes more if it's Dacor) plus parts.

Regarding parts for life - You need to be really careful with this statement - ie - Scubapro is all parts for the life of the reg, one owner, as long as its purchased at an authorized dealer and serviced ANNUALLY at an authorized dealer.

"Atomic Aquatics warrants this regulator against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the original owner with the exception of mouthpieces, hoses, o-rings, filters, or valve seats which are warranted for 2 years. During the first 2 years, Atomic Aquatics warrants all parts of this regulator against defects in materials and workmanship. Atomic Aquatics will at its option repair or replace any components it finds defective." -from their web site -

Most regs need o ring and teflon/nylon stuff replaced every year or two - depending on usage and diver maintenance. That stuff is not covered.

Zeagle, I honestly don't know. I have never serviced a Zeagle where at least some parts were charged for and noone has ever said anything. Hope I'm not wrong - but we always have to buy the parts from Zeagle. With that exception, I believe that most if not all other regs, have a similar warranty to Atomics.

Now a LDS can add to that if they wish. In other words, if I want to eat the parts, I don't have to charge you for them. And some manufacturers will be flexible, with a good argument. Bottom line, if the warranty is part of your consideration, really learn what it means.

Happy diving.

Some interesting stuff is getting said about warranty policies. I bought my scubapro reg in the month August, but ususally bring it in for service in October or November. In 01 I brought it in early and in 02 late. If there is a 30 day grace period for Scubapro, I have not had it shoved in my face yet. Frankly, at the rate I have been diving since June, I might not make it to the fall before my reg could benefit from being tweaked.

Those Apeks rebuild prices sound mighty good, who does it that low? Around here they want a lot more which has been keeping me from buying an Apeks for my son.

ScubaShack in CT. I'll be picking them up in a week or 2 and I'll post if the prices were different. That's what the owner quoted me though. He said the kits were approx. 11.00 each. While I was dropping them off, another guy was picking up his dacor regs.... 80.00 or so for a 1st, 2nd, and octo... heard the owner tell him the parts are a killer, plus they had to be sent out... the shop doesn't do dacor.
