If your DIR and concerned you should keep the bolt snap. If your not DIR and are just takeing bit and pieces of DIR than do whatever but understand the reasons for using the bolt snap.
1. bolt snaps on every thing. This promotes muscle memory, bolt snaps are quicker and easer than everthing else and far more secure than velcro.
2. As a system DIR builds upon its self, you may be only single tank diving now but if you get in to stages/deco bottles you will want the security of the bolt snap.
Plus your buddys will all have the bolt snaps. If I was diving with another diver who was dir and dident have the snap on the long hose I would be getting one of my spares for him befor we got in the water figuring that he had probly lost his some how
I dive cold water and use large and medium bolt snaps on everything, on the reg its a mediun snap and after the first few dives I stoped noticing it.
