Can anyone tell me the proper torque settings for regulator hoses? I am not so interested in quantifiable numbers (such as 40 ft/Lbs), but rather I am looking for subjective measurements (hand tight plus 1/5 turn).

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
s@mpson

hand tight plus a snugging bump. Certainly not a 1/4 turn. They do not depend on tightness for sealing, they depend on their little o rings. If it's leaking after that, do not tighten it any more, take it off and check your O ring. You only tighten it enough so that it doesn't loosen by itself, and if your o ring is good, it'll seal even if the hose is pretty loose.

The Campana Snug n' Bump... make it a 1/16 turn.

The Semi-DIR finger tight only! (It actually might be fully DIR, but the guy who showed me is out in left field LOTS of the time)(No, its not you, Uncle Pug) :tease:

The adjustable wrenchers tighten it until just before you hear that tell tale "pop".

I would suggest the first two, as the last could really "hose" your equipment.

s@mpson,

My US Divers repair manual sez 35 inch/lbs is correct. Not kung-fu tight, but enough so it can't be unscrewed by normal hands.

3 ft/lbs... you might be able to loosen that with your bare hands Neil. Thats dang loose in my book. BTW, my buddy just bought a swivel for his reg. The nut going into the reg is merely knurled... no flats for a wrench. Do remember that the O-ring seals on the inner tube and the outer tube. No amount of torque will make it seal or leak. Just like those boosters on the Challenger.

reg hose to first stage : finger tight plus medium *umph* (the kind you would use to tighten a slightly leaking water faucet)

reg hose to second stage : finger tight
