I'm new to this thread, I'm an OW and I'm willing to buy a regulator, Some people have telled me that the scuba pro is the best. Altough I think is too expensive, what could be a regulator for a begginer not too expensive but just reliable. Please...some advise here:)

I own both scubapro and apeks and cosider them both great regs. Even the lower priced scubapro and apeks regs breathe great.I cant comment on others as i have never owned any of them :D

If you had to choose between scubapro and apeks (considering price) what would it be???

I have used Scubapro almost exclusively for 18 yrs, and I agree even the low priced regs are good performers and are very reliable.

I have tried a Genesis reg and have owned a few Dacor regs and a US divers reg but have never kept them long. They just did not seem to be up to the same standard as the Scubapro regs I have owned and my wife and son both agree with that sentiment.

Much of this is subjective and related to the "feel" of how the reg breathes, but in my opinion that is important.

Scubapro also offers excellent warranty and parts support. I can still get parts and service for 25 yr. old Scubapro regs. In comparison, Dacor discontinues parts in a relatively short period of time making servicing of an older reg problematic and dependent on dwindling dealer parts inventories. Over the years I sold a Dacor 600, a 900 and a 960 which is a good thing as none of them have parts support at this time.

Scubapro regs are a little more expensive, but dealer support and service is good and parts are free under their warranty program. They are also very good about offerring upgrades for older models which further extends their useful life. You pay a bit more upfront, but I think you more than make up for it in the long term.

Personally i use a ATX200 for my primary and a ATX200 1st stage and a TX 40 as my back up reg. The hoses route great for doubles. I dont think you could go wrong either way. Are you planning buying from a LDS or mail order. The reason i ask is which one is easier to get serviced in your area. If you buy mail order you may get bent over trying to get it serviced at your LDS depending on how they are.

I'd choose Scubapro because I can get dealer support and parts locally. It's also a confidence issue. I have a lot of hours breathing Scubapro regs and have not had any problems. That confidence is nice down deep. I also have a lot of experience in maintaining them and know exactly how they work. That knowledge is also valuable to me and probably lends a pretty strong bias to my opinions.

Mmmmmmmm Oreos

Sorry got sidetracked

Scubapro too expensive? They made a major price cut at the end of last year's season that dramatically lowered the prices. Some of their "low end" models are excellent, durable regulators. Check out the Mk16/R380, MK2/R190 and Mk16/S550 and see what fits in your price range.

Personally I think SPs are way too expensive. I can pick up an ATX 200 with Octo for 350€. SP can't come anywhere close to that or the durability of an Apeks.

When I had my SP MK25/S600 I paid 599.99 for it and that was a good deal at the time and I had nothing but problems and freezing with the SP regs. Never had a problem with the Apeks at all

DIR Tec Diver, where can you pick up an atx 200 plus octo for Euro 350? i have not seen anything close to that.

I paid $390 for the MK16/S550 +R190 octo delivered to my door.

I don't consider that particularly expensive.
