I am looking into getting new regs. right now I am a recreational diver but want to get into tech stuff. I was wanting to know what is a good brand to get for both, I was looking at the dive rite 2500 or 1200.

Those are fine.. if you have a local Dive Rite dealer to service them regularly and the price is decent you're all set. Other popular tech regs include Atomic, Apeks, Zeagle, and Scubapro, with the decision most often dictated by what kind of prices and service are available locally and cold water performance.

thanks. Do you know how good they work in cold water.

I can't speak from experience, but the 2500 should be fine... not sure about the 1200.

I use the RG2500 for my long hose. Its a nice breathing reg. Get it with the cold water kit installed. Its only an extra $25 and well worth it.

There are a lot of good regs available that are suitable for rec/tec use.

But keep in mind hose routing...some regs are better than others when it comes to this.

i know a few ppl that use the dive rite 2500 and love them, i breathe them during ooa drills. they breathe pretty good, as well do the apeks and the scubapro mk25/s600. i use poseidons and scubapro

They should work well for you... pretty much any high end balanced (both first and second stage) reg will do well. adjustable ones are nice but it's not the end of the world if you don't have them. there was a good point made about hose routing, keep this in mind when shopping, also it's nice to have standard sized hose ports, some manufacturers use different sized port/hoses which might be hard to find if on a remote trip, just something to think about....
