Because it was out of warranty your parts were not free.
You probably paid a labor rate per stage, 3 stages, + parts. Parts are probably 50-60 dollars for all three stages, the rest was labor and tax.

Well, the last time I had my Apeks (primary & octo) serviced it cost me ~$200.

$200 is nuts. You would be better off to dive your regs for 3 years or so without servicing them, sell them and buy new regs.

I have 3 Apeks regs. The oldest is maybe 5 years old. Have never had any of them serviced. I check the IP on a regular basis, partially dismantle the second stages, change a few O rings and adjust the cracking pressure but thats about it.
If its not broke I prefer not to fix it.

The reason for my post is that if this was typical....doesn't sound like it....I will sell reg setup buy AL w/ warranty & pay a lot less for servicing.
I really do love the regs but $ is a definite consideration. Yes, if I wait every several years to have them serviced that may work out well. I keep my things in very good condition (inspect...rinse well...dry well..watch to make sure they don't get bumped,banged..). Also, the first stage is environmentally sealed.

Some shops think it is good business to employ punitive annual service costs as punishment for bringing them a reg from an unauthorized source. You might want to talk to your service provider to understand the basis of the charge.

Apex has the same warranty as Aqua Lung. Aqua Lung owns Apex. It seems to be that it is out of warranty. If you bought it online then Aqua Lung will not warranty it. If you bought it in a brick and morter store then you might be able to buy it back into warranty saving future annual parts costs. Either way you go you will still pay labor. To keep it in warranty you MUST have it serviced every 12 months.
