I am using Apeks ATX200'a on my doubles and DiveRite 1205's for stages....I recently acquired some old school Poseidon Jetstream's and I might be switching my 200's over to those.

The main thing when it comes to choosing a set of regs is to get something that has good hose routing for your application, that breathe well and can be easily serviced--everything beyond that is just a bonus. Most new regs nowadays will be able to deliver the amount of gas you need so it will come down to $$$, options and routing in the end.

Do it easy: didn't you have a problem with freeflow with the abyss bungied? I used it a few times in the pool and the fool thing freeflowed as soon as it left my mouth. Great breather, kinda sensitive, IMO for a necklace. And they like Oceanic mainly because they are relatively less in cost, easy to fix in the field if something goes wrong, and has survived even his abuses.

Well, if it hits the water with the mouthpiece up, it will freeflow. If I take it out of my mouth with the mouthpiece up, it will probably bubble. I usually turn it down as I get in, or shortly thereafter. Once I'm in, I flood it underwater and forget about it. I guess it's a compromise between easy breathing and a little hissing when you jump in. I'll take the easy breathing. My regs are tuned to crack in about an inch of water, so I guess they breathe relatively easily.

MK25AF/G250HP
MK17/G250HP
ATX100s
TX100s

1st Stage: MK25, they configure really nicely with d/bls. The MK17's are also a popular choice.

2nd Stage S550, S555, S600, X650 or G250HP. Any are a good choices. The S550 is basically the S600 without the adjustable knob. Get a descent 2nd Stage on your primary and a something like the R190 for the backup.

As to why no Aqualung. It's not their product but entirely about their business practices. I have principles that are a bit beyond the scope of this discussion which result in me limiting my choices in brands.

If this is the case then I would say go with Zeagle or the Oceanic as both probably have the best overall pricing practices. AquaLung/Apex, Atomic, and ScubaPro all have pricing and sales practices that are similar.

BTW I will not buy from some mfgs as well but for different reasons. We all pick our poison.:11:

I use the oceanic delta4/FDX10 combo. They work flawlessly and hose routing is wonderful, even veteran tech diver really like the routing these first stages allow.

Don't be afraid to save a little money and go with the oceanics, they make good stuff. For the money you could almost get a spare reg for the same price as the atomics.

I love my Atomic Z1s... The hose routing is nice and they breathe like a champ.

Wet Woolie,

You going to get all sorts of advice on what regs to use however, if you check a thread on which reg most folks like, the answer is usually the one they own.

Regs are really personal however, when you add, cold water, doubles and technicial into the equation things narrow down a lot.

Basically most tech divers I know only use Apeks ,Scubapro or the Aqualung legends.

The DS4/DS4/XTX50/ATX50 is the workhorse of the apeks range, cheap totally reliable and is a fine breath.
The more advanced Scubapro MK25 is nice but I'm still not totally convinced on it's cold water performance, some of the guys I know call it Scubaflow.
The Apeks XTX100 or XTX200 is the next range from Apeks and they are do breath a bit better than the DS4 but not by a lot and are quite a lot more expensive.

If you intend to do tech diving and want to learn to service your own regs, get a set that is most commonly used among your tech diving mates is cheap to service or something that gives you the best hose routing. My choice is the XTX100 for my doubles and the DS4 for stage/deco.

My Mk25 I use for travel/leisure/single tank dives.
