Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of buying a new reg. I'm a fairly new diver so no technical stuff yet. I'm looking into the XS Scuba Sea Air Tri Metal and the Sherwood Maximus. If anyone can offer any advice, it'll be much appreciated. Thanks!

A) First, make a list of what you want the reg to do; then, shop against that list.

B) Try before you buy.

All the best, James

Those are both good regs.
The Maximus has the under arm hose routing, which streamlines you and it is an environmentally sealed reg, so it good in cold water and dirty water. It also has been around for a long time, and has a great track record.

Somebody may be able to correct me, but I think that the XC Scuba Sea Air tri-metal reg is made by Scubapro. I think that the 1st stage is based on the M2. If that is the case, then it is also a tried and true reg.

For ease of service in many locations, and the Maximnus, being Sherwood's top reg., I would go with the Maximus.
but..
You will be happy either way!

I would expand your search a little bit and look at other brands. If, however, for some reason you are really set on one of those two, I would choose the Sherwood. They are a good workhorse reg for beginning divers. It wouldnt be my first choice, but hey... thats me.
