Hi everyone! My mom and I are starting our classroom/pool sessions in 2 weeks then going to Cancun in March to do our referral dives. Can anyone recommend a good dive shop? Also, how is diving in Cancun? Not as good as Cozumel, I'm sure, but is it at least decent?

Thank you all for your help!!!

Scuba Cancun offers Cancun Diving, Snorkeling, Cavern Diving, Cozumel Dives & Fishing Charters

I dove with them before & can recommend them. This business was owned by the parents & now their son has taken over it. Even YEARS ago, they had their own recompression chamber on site & were trained to use it.
You don't hear much about Cancun diving, cause it is so close to Cozumel. BUT, for newly certified-intermediate, there is some good diving. Unlike Cozumel, there isn't the extreme depths associated with wall diving, which you don't need as a beginner. The areas are flat bottom, 50+ - ft deep, coral heads around, good visibility, & lots of fish. One thing,,, I have always seen sharks on the dives there, but never a problem whatsoever. So, get yourself as comfortable in the water as you can be, after classes. Years ago, I went with them to the " Cave of the Sleeping Sharks, " but understand now, that you rarely see a shark there.

We dove for years with Scuba Cancun and really enjoyed it. Cancun may not be Coz, but it has some very good diving.

Check out www.mayanaquadives.com. I've been diving with Ben for years. He has sterling reviews on SB. He has a small, personalized style and is an excellent instructor. He trained me, my son and daughter.

The reefs are alive and you will love Manchones Reef, just off Isla Mujeres. Talk to Ben about restaurants and hotel pickup.

You can contact Ben at benrmooney@yahoo.co.uk. You will not be disappointed.

I hope you have great weather and dive safe!

Hi Rachael,
I was about to post this somewhere just as I was so impressed with their services, though its not a true trip report as you will see - Ben at Mayan Aqua Dive is your guy...
Hi All,

I just wanted to share with you some feedback on behalf of a client for Ben and his team at Mayan Aqua Dive in Cancun.

The background of this story is that as a dive travel agency this company is a VIP client for me.

A day before they were leaving for a conference in Cancun, they decided they would like to make the most of their one free day and “Discover Scuba”.

Ben answered my call to help immediately and by the time the group was on the plane the next morning, they were booked and ready to go with a fantastic tailored experience to look forward to.

Ben made my job an easy one that day and my customers returned as you can see below extremely happy.

As many of us know, resort courses can actually put some people off diving for life. In this case I honestly believe based on their experience that day, the dive industry will grow by another 6 divers thanks to Ben.

I would recommend Ben and the Mayan Aqua Dive crew without hesitation to any of my clients and anyone looking for a top-notch dive operator in the Cancun area.

Quote from my client:

“ I'd like to share on behalf of the entire group what a phenomenal time we had scuba diving. Ben and his team were incredible with their instruction and guiding us to experiencing a breadth of life most of us have never seen before.

We all want to experience scuba diving further and become certified so that we may experience life under the sea even more.

From the time we were picked up at our hotel, to the pool greeting, "classroom" instruction, pool instruction, the equipment provided, the boat, the snacks and beverages, the fun conversation and entertainment, the awesome video footage, the actual dive experience, the level of service and hospitality, to the return to our hotel, we all rated the day and event as a true 10!!

We came back joyfully exhausted and are looking forward to the next dive! You were so right, we were all "hooked"!!

Thank you again for setting this up with the best group - which makes a world of difference.

Please share this feedback with Ben and his team - we wish them continued success and will look them up again when we return to Cancun”.

Mayan aqua dive for sure Karl and Ben are great Instructors I got my advanced cert from Karl I have dove with allot of businesses in Cancun and Cozumel the best dive shop I have dove with by far I felt like member of the family not a customer. also Cozumel sorry to say is over rated not many fish

the wall reef is nice but Cancun is a national park the reef and fish are full of life and lots of fish crab lobster and turtles very good diving

I just returned from Cancun diving and dove with Mayan Aqua Dive. Ben and the team are fantastic, very friendly and made the trip allot of fun. I agree with the previous post "they make you feel like family and not customers. " Look them up if you are going to Cancun.
