I am vactioning to Cozumel 11/19 - 11/26 and need to do my open water referral. Staying at Sunscape Sabor with my fiance who would like to ride along and snorkle. Can anyone reccomend a good place to get my dives in? Also, what to expect on these dives? It would be a great help. I have been to Cozumel several times so familiar with the area. Thank you.

Contact Mateo at Blue Angel. I can send you an e-mail, PM me.

It's been a while, but usually a 2 day shore dive process. They will take you out and do several drills on each day to show your proficiency. Things have changed a lot since I was certified, a millennium ago, so I'm not sure of the specifics.

then from there you will be certified and ready to hit the reefs!!

I second the recommendation for Mateo at Blue Angel. BA is very well set up for this with easy in and out shore diving right at the back of the dive shop, and Mateo is one of the best dive instructors I know in addition to being a really good guy. Your fiance can either snorkel above you and watch, or she can sit in the restaurant above the dive shop and have a margarita while she waits for you.

The shore dive is pretty good in its own right; there is lots of life around the stingray pen next door and the coral heads south of the pen. There is plenty to see.

Thank you for the posts. I have emailed everyone you all have suggested and starting to get replies back. Thanks again.

Great! If you end up going with Mateo at Blue Angel, please tell him Gordon says he needs a miracle every day. And be sure to visit his restaurant in town, 'Ohana.
