I have a DiveRite top handle reel. It does just fine until line gets between the spool and the frame, at which point it becomes the inspiration for some very inventive language.
I have also used the side handle reels pictured earlier in this thread on 2 different occasions. They did not seem as smooth in use, although this could very well be due to familiarity issues. However, clearing a jam is MUCH easier with that type.
If I were to buy a new reel, it would probably be the side handle Ralph Hood or equivalent, though I would give the Halcyon/Salvo reels a close look as well.
