Hi

Just received my subssee magnifier and will be using it with the G10. Would appreciate tips from anyone who has used this combo.

Will be using the Inon S2000 as well... again, any tips appreciated as I have a trip coming up in 2 weeks and will be using this combo for the 1st time!

thanks

Are you referring to the new design? Did they finally release it?

My +5 is at the post office; the +10 version is still not quite ready according to ReefNet.

Mine is the new one and it's the +10. They shipped a few of them out early even though they thought they didn't quite pass their stringent qualify inspection to those of us that were needing them for upcoming trips. When I get back I have the ability to send it back in if I feel that it didn't meet my expectations and exchange it for the ones that are on the way in.

While I didn't see any outright issues with the lens (wont know for sure until I shoot with it) I did see some machining scratches and looks like there may be a small piece of metal protruding from a thread inside the lens... just don't know if it protrudes far enough out to effect the image.

However as I have never used one of these and have only used the G10 on a quick trip to Fiji without a strobe I really would appreciate tips, hints, suggestions from all you shooters who are familiar with this equipment.

I know I have a learning curve but really hope that with some help here I can shorten it so I can capture some awesome images while in Lembeh over the holidays.

Could you provide a picture of the setup? I'm interested in seeing the size relation to the older version.

Will try to get one posted in a day or two. Have packed everything to take with me to work tomorrow so I can work on attaching the cable for the strobe to the housing to make sure everything works. Would hate to get half way across the globe just to find out things aren't working properly or I screwed up putting it together. :-)

Sorry for taking so long getting these pics posted but I'm rushing around like a maddog trying to get ready for my trip... leaving for Lembeh 8 days!! :D:D

Here are 2 pics to show you the size of the new subsee... I put the magnifier in front of the housing over the port and the other one is next to the housing. This will give you an idea of it's increased size.

Would still like to hear from those that have used it with the G10 as to whether or not you turned the macro mode on when shooting with it and if you zoomed in or out, used AF or manual.

Thanks for the pic's. Its substantially larger then I thought. Looks like I might be purchasing one of these in the near future for my Ikelite / G10 setup.

I haven't used it with the G10, (I reviewed the subsee with my 105mm lens) but I'm pretty sure you want to use it in macro mode, or it won't focus. Since a diopter reduces the working distance, you'll want to zoom in at least a little to give yourself some working distance. If it were myself, I'd zoom in a good deal with a compact to get to 100-150mm equivalent focal length.

Expect auto-focus and finding the subject to be difficult with any super-macro setup, so use a good focus light to help the camera find contrast and achieve focus. Practice indoors before taking it underwater.

hope this helps,
Scott
