I thread a piece of fishing line through the hinge for a loop to clip off. The lens is glass. They are small, cheap, and the plastic case protects them pretty well. Nothing fancy...

RIP, Doc

this is interesting and easy to make! thank you very much sir.

My absolute pleasure and I also thank you for your ability to see through the cult of I can't do it so it can't be done

Or this. Good for really tiny critters in tight spaces. Also from the Netherlands. No handle, but that works better for me.

i actually made my own handles for my first underwater housing for my old camera.. it was easy.. design it on a piece of paper.. measure the holes at the botom of the housing.. bought an aluminium block.. had the shop cut it down to size.. drilled appropriate holes.. assemble it.. test it in swimming pool.. add some small blocks in front and back to prevent the camera from spinning 360degrees... to keep it in position.. done. disassemble it, anodize it.. done...

Hi guys.. i am not sure where to post this.. it's been decades since my last dive, and i will be going for a dive in september 2024.

recently i noticed i cant see as well as i used to. i work as a service technician, once i needed to replace a damaged part of a machine, i cant see the part number no matter how hard i tried, and i cant go any nearer as it is obstructed. my only solution is to take out my mobile phone and take a photo of the part number, and zoom in to read it.

then i recalled many years ago i dived with a group of elderly gentleman from Hong Kong, they each brought a huge magnifying glass and used it to look at nudibranch underwater. i thought it was a great idea.. but it was a long time ago and i am wondering if there is a better solution other than a magnifying glass? i can easily drill a hole and add some harness and secure it to my BCD.

But anyone has a solution for this? other than magnifying glass? if not i will probably drop by a nearby stationary shop and grab a magnifying glass.

I have seen a couple of divers use a magnifying glass that looked straight out of the box from Office Max. I never asked if it was somehow special. I don't know why one wouldn't work out of the box, though.

You know how our underwater vision is blurred unless we have a special sealed space of air for our eyes

Our underwater microscope to work in unison, requires multiple lenses completely surrounded in liquid

Hence the holes in my machine

More magnifiers more better

I have been using a cheapo magnifying glass underwater for years and it works just fine. Just make sure it’s glass and not plastic. I usually leave it on the Liveaboards for future use. It’s wonderful to have for small critters. I keep it on a lanyard and hand it off to people so they can see stuff better too

No, it does not work underwater. I've tried.
