OK. I'd LOVE to come along, but I have one small question:

There is a Deer Creek that runs through Terra Bella (north of Bakersfield). There is a Deer Creek up in Nevada City. There is a Deer Creek in North County San Diego northeast of Vista.

Where, for the love of all that is holy, is the Deer Creek of which you speak?:11:

"Site:
Parking on the ocean side, at the Call Box pole.
Short stairway to a beach with sandy stretches between rocks.
Thick kelp in a BIG reef.
Depths: 20 - 35 fsw. "

Dosen't do me much good if I don't know where the Call Box Pole is!!!:D

Call Boxes all have numbers. The ifrst part is the route and the second part is the VERY rough milepost. For example Call Box 15-765 is on the 15 freeway at post mile 76.5

TIA

Ian

Deer Creek is located about 2 1/2 miles north of Mulholland Hwy/Leo Carrillo State Park on Highway 1 at the intersection with Deer Creek Road.

Ah ha!

Well...seeing as this site is over 130 miles from my house in Temecula, I think I'll take a pass on this survey dive.

However, for others who may be interested, the GPS Lats and Lons for the site are: 34º03'43.3" North / 118º59'07.3"W.

Here's a link to an aerial photo from Google Earth on the site:

Have fun and stay safe!

I saw in your profile that you are a surveyor! Hey, maybe we could use you in Reef Check! The survey being discussed here is to be performed by Reef Check certified volunteer divers. If you would like to get more information and volunteer, go to the Reef Check California web site: http://www.reefcheck.org/rcca/rcca_home.php

Cheers!

Actually, Robert, I am a certified Reef Invertebrate Diver! ;)

I passed my exam last month at the Brich Aquarium program. I am VERY proud to be able to say that I aced the est, too!:D

I am hoping to get vertebrate certified at the next class in San Diego. I've even been studying the materials I downloaded from the SDOF site.:eyebrow:

Cheers!

Hi Ian,

Well maybe if you're interested in helping us out with our surveys for Reef Check you can check out the web site & see what you would need to do to get started. We'd love to have you join us.

I am humbled... and sorry... and repentant.... and LMAO!!!:rofl3:

Thanks for the thump upside the head, Ian.... and I'll try not to give you a reason to give me another :no .

Click HERE for a site description of Deer Creek Road.

The ReefCheck.org site is about to create geographically specific subforums, so RCCA certified divers looking for local surveys can narrow their seach. We'll be organizing all the surveys through that site, and posting Alerts, such as this thread, on neighborhood boards that many of us are members of. But all actually planning will happen at www.ReefCheck.org.

Now I can see that it would be a good idea to write a "recipe" for posting a new/proposed survey:
  • Date
  • Location name
  • Link to a URL with specific site description :1poke:
  • Equipment/supplies/food/drink etc...anything special needed.
  • Survey captain to contact for more info.
OK, I learned something here today :crafty: ... Thanks!!

I'm already started! I AM a certified ReefCheck Invertebrate Diver. I even have all my slates and marking pencils and EVRYTHING! I also happen to be a Land Surveyor by profession.:D

Claudette:
No problem! I was thinking that you were associated with San Diego Ocean Foundation and the invertebrate survey was taking place at a "Deer Creek" site unknown to me in San Diego County.

I was looking forward to "hunting" inverts at a new dive site.;)

Laura (my wife) informed me that I have a U/W Navigation class on tap at Wiley’s SCUBNA Locker in Riverside AND a 50th birthday party to attend on the 31st. :no

Ah well…perhaps I’ll catch up with y’all at another time…
Good luck with your "nudi" counts!:eyebrow:

Ian

My bad Ian, well hope to see you out there soon than.

John
