Anyone have any suggestions of where to dive in the Red Sea? Good time of year to go? I am thinking of doing a liveaboard - any suggestions of providers? ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Live-aboard is definitely the way to go for the best diving.

There are usually two tours, Northern and Southern. Northern is where most of the good wrecks are as well a Ras Mohamed National Park. It is also where most of the day boats go, too. If you have a good captain you should miss most of them, though. Southern is less sheltered so sometimes the weather dictates where you dive. The reefs are generally less dived and you often get bigger fish and sharks :).

A lot of the boats alternate so if you do two weeks you can do both tours. You can also find other tours if you search (Wreck tours, deep south, etc).

Winter can be a bit cold in the wind and the South gets rough. Summer can be a bit too hot (YMMV). Spring and Autumn are favourite.

Do a search in this forum. There must be 1/2 a doz threads on this very subject.

It'll save you some time/effort.

ANy suggestions would be appreciated.

Take me.
I'll carry your gear for you.

Shark's Bay...they have cabanas for $18 a night. You can shore dive and do live aboards.

We flew from England 2 years ago on Air 200 for about $200. Did Price Line and got tickets from ABQ to London for $350. It was a good trip.

Is best and you can do land-based or liveaboard. For the keener diver liveaboard is best. If you want to take in some culture and scenery on land then go to Aqaba, Jordan. You can do shore dives at low cost (lowest is Arab Divers) and see the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum, and Petra on day excursions.

Because a two-centre approach might work, liveaboard off of Sharm and then some shore-based reef diving off of Dahab with some local culture thrown in.

With regard to when to go, I would suggest May/June or September/October are greta times when weather and water is warm but not too hot!

July and August really does get very hot, well over 40 deg C and even the wind burns cause the air seems red-hot.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do!

spent 2 weeks in Brothers, elphinstone & Deadelus in August, boy its hot down Deadelus. Saw 4 manta's and an oceanic white tip at brothers, 30 hammers at Deadelus, 3 threshers seen at brothers but not by me, damn, damn, damn. diving excellent, went on Suzanna-1

check our www.scuba.co.uk

absolutely first class boat didn't see another nearly as impressive in the 2 weeks. Crew fantastic, food great. I was told May is top season in those area's, a little cooler and very lively shark action, almost gauranteed.

Lucky you.

The one time I was in the vicinity of the Red Sea, I did not bring my scuba gear with me for the trip.

Since then I have heard that The Red Sea is on the short list of "#1 dive site in the world."

Based on that, since live-aboards generally give you more dives per day, that would be my vote too.

Have a great trip!
